My Current Graduate Students (in alphabetical order)

Mr. Pinyo Wongthong

I am a third year Ph.D student at Chulalongkorn University, working with Professors Suda Kiatkamjonwong, Qinmin Pan and Garry Rempel. My research interest is a chemical modification of natural rubber. My current research is focused on the graft copolymerization of vinyl monomer onto natural rubber backbone.

Professor Garry Rempel, Department of Chemical Engineering

Miss Methawee Pruettiphap

I’m a Ph.D. candidate at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. Professors Suda Kiatkamjonwong, Garry Rempel and Qinmin Pan are my advisors. My research topic is to study the synthesis of the themoresponsive nanogels via differential emulsion polymerization and their applications  to drug delivery system.

Mr. Enefiok Robert Akpan

I am currently enrolled in a PhD program in Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo. My research focus is on the Development of Multifunctional Continuous Process for the Modification of High Performance Elastomers. It is a privilege to be supervised by Professor G. Rempel and Professor Q. Pan, who are academicians with in-depth expertise in this area of research. I hold a MASc degree in Process Systems Engineering from the University of Regina, Saskatchewan on a thesis titled 'Catalyst Development and Reactor Design for the Production of Hydrogen from Biomass-derived Oxygenated Hydrocarbon mixtures and Fossil Fuels'.

 Mr. Rifang (Ray) Zou

I am fortunate to be part of Professor Rempel’s Group, which consists of a very dynamic group of students.  Due to the curiosity about nanotechnology, I have been enrolled in the polymeric nanoparticle development for my Master of Applied Science Degree, spervised by Professor Rempel. Indeed, what really motivates me is the fascination of researching and development of polymeric nanoparticles targeting a “green” application for the hydrogenation process.  I enjoy many different hobbies and also take the time to become involved in graduate student governance.

Mr. Minghui (Karl) Liu

I was born in China and received my MASc from Tianjin University. I had one year experience as a visiting scholar in New Brunswick University, Canada. I’m currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Waterloo under supervision of Professors Garry Rempel and Qinmin Pan. My research topic is to study the modification  of diene based polymers. I'm also assisting Professor Rempel to manage the labs. I enjoy my research and the lab management.

 Dr. Yin (Allen) Liu

I received PhD degree from the University of Waterloo at May 2012, which was supervised by Professors G. L. Rempel and Q. Pan. My research topic at Waterloo was the modification of diene based polymers. Recalled the time at Waterloo, I was excited about my research and enjoyed assisting Professor Rempel to manage the labs. I had many friends there and I still miss them. I am currently working as a research scientist in the TrojanUV Technologies in Ontario.

My Previous Graduate Students

 Mr. Ting Li

I received my MASc degree from the University of Waterloo at August 2011, which was supervised by Professors G. L. Rempel. I had two years` happy time in Professor Rempel`s laboratory and my research topic was the investigation of the chemical engineering problems in highly viscous hydrogenation systems. After finished my MASc program at Waterloo, I returned back to Hangzhou, a most beautiful city, and I am currently working in a global company which is located in Hangzhou.

Mr. Pornlert Piya-areetham

I’m a Ph.D. candidate at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok,Thailand. My advisors are Professor Pattarapan Prasassarakich and Professor Garry  L. Rempel. My research is focusing on the catalytic hydrogenation of natural rubber latex in aqueous media. I’ve  a great opportunity to carry out research in Professor Rempel`s laboratories,at the University of Waterloo. It has been a great experience for me to be a part of Professor Rempel’s  research group.
